About ocean love

Our head coach and founder, Lachie Rombouts, is a dedicated and experienced waterman.

He is a qualified NSW surf lifesaver, elite-level body surfer, celebrated big wave surfer from the east coast of Australia.

He is known for surfing the biggest wave ever at Sydney’s Avalon beach at 25ft.

Lachie is known for his artistic style and bright smile in the water even when body surfing down the majestic Huka Falls in New Zealand and surfing some of the NSW south coast’s heaviest and most unforgiving waves and slabs.

He holds the following certificates:

  • OSSCA Certified - Professional ocean lifeguard level 3

  • Senior First Aid + Advanced Resuscitation

He is known for charging some the biggest waves, EVER, at:

  • Palm Beach, NSW - 60ft+

  • Depot Bombie, NSW - 40ft+

  • Bawley Point, NSW - 40ft+

It isn’t uncommon to see Lachie emerge from a huge, out of control ocean in the middle of a freezing winter southerly with a smile on his face. That’s where he is most himself!

Working with Lachie:

”I’ve known Lachie for years and I think the biggest thing I notice about him is just how loved he is in the local community. Everyone smiles when he walks into the local cafe or turns up at the beach, he’s got a sort of guru atmosphere about him because everyone knows how insanely skilled he is in the ocean… It isn’t weird to see him emerge from the gnarliest 20ft day in the middle of freezing winter in nothing but budgie smugglers after a ‘casual swim’ like that’s normal.

He’s a bit of a superhuman in the water”.

"Lachie Rombouts likes to call it schlippin’ in. Take a super-sized gun that paddles like a battleship at full steam and glide into a heaving bommie."
